Carragher fumes at VAR over Liverpool penalty shout

Jamie Carragher was left furious that the video assistant referee failed to award Liverpool a penalty during their showdown with Arsenal, after Jurrien Timber appeared to pull back Reds striker Alexander Isak inside the box.

The incident occurred as Isak looked to head the hosts level, with the former Liverpool defender insisting the tug stopped the forward from making contact with the ball.

Carragher's Verdict on VAR

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "One of the best goalscorers in the league is pulled back seven yards out and it stops him heading the ball - why does he need to make a meal of it? VAR do your job."

His comments came in response to fellow pundit Daniel Sturridge, who suggested Liverpool would have had a stronger case if Isak had made more of the contact.

Sturridge's Assessment

Sturridge said: "If he [Isak] makes more of it, it's a penalty. I don't think he makes enough of it... It's clear and blatant."

The debate over the decision is set to continue, with the incident taking centre stage in the aftermath of the match between the two title rivals.
