Cardiff City v Burnley halted after medical emergency

The Championship match between Cardiff City and Burnley at Cardiff City Stadium was halted on 83 minutes after an incident in the stands. Players and fans were seen gesturing towards the Ninian Stand, trying to raise the alarm.

Stoppage and Response

The cause of the stoppage was not immediately known, although it appeared to be some sort of medical emergency. Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy was seen in conversation with the referee and fourth official as he tried to establish what was happening. Two members of the Bluebirds' medical team were seen making their way to the scene.

On Cardiff City TV, there was obvious concern shown. The commentator said: "First and foremost, there's a medical emergency in the Ninian Stand. Football takes a back seat at moments like this, doesn't it?"

Reaction and Resumption

The co-commentator added: "Absolutely. You never like to see this, of course. People go to a football game for enjoyment, for relaxation. Hopefully this is just precautionary."

"Over in the Ninian Stand, as we look across, in fairness, the medical teams and stewards have reacted very quickly. Despite the excitement here at Cardiff City Stadium, football rightly takes a distant second place right now."

The game was stopped for five minutes in total, with play resuming on 88 minutes.
