Chelsea booked their place in the last four with a 3-1 victory at Cardiff City. Substitutes Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto struck second-half goals after David Turnbull had equalised for the hosts. Newcastle edged past Fulham 2-1 courtesy of a stoppage-time header from 19-year-old Lewis Miley, cancelling out Sasa Lukic's equaliser after Yoane Wissa had opened the scoring.
Manchester City secured their semi-final spot with a win over Brentford, with Rayan Cherki scoring a spectacular goal and celebrating in the style of Erling Haaland. The draw also means Arsenal's quarter-final against Crystal Palace was postponed from this week to 23 December due to fixture congestion, after Palace manager Oliver Glasner criticised the scheduling of four games in eight days.
The semi-finals are the only round played over two legs, with first-leg ties taking place in the week commencing 12 January and second-leg matches in the week commencing 2 February. The final is scheduled for 22 March at Wembley Stadium. Chelsea and Newcastle will be the home teams for the first legs.
