Scott Parker lambasted his Burnley side as 'powderpuff' and lacking belief after a limp 2-0 loss at Brighton extended the Clarets' winless Premier League run to 11 matches. Goals from Georginio Rutter and Yasin Ayari either side of half-time condemned second-bottom Burnley to another defeat, leaving them six points adrift of safety despite a meagre two points from their last 33 available.
Parker, who led the club to promotion last season, admitted his players had rolled over and said they had shown no belief they could get a result at the Amex Stadium. 'We lacked belief and I didn't feel for one second that it was a team or group that ever believed they could come here and get a result really,' he said. 'You can lose football matches but there are ways of losing and I just felt we looked at times powderpuff.'
The Burnley boss did not hide from the severity of the situation, warning that performances like that would guarantee relegation. 'If you perform like we did today, you ain't collecting enough points to stay in this division, no chance,' he said. Despite the run, Parker insisted he retains the full support of the club's owners and remains committed to the cause.
Brighton's victory ended a six-match winless run of their own and lifted them to eighth in the table. Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler praised his team's resilience, saying they controlled the game and deserved the three points. 'The run wasn't great but we always stuck together,' he added.
