Boyd told to stop Hibs empty seats criticism

Scottish football fans have hit back at Kris Boyd over his criticism of Hibs for leaving seats empty at Easter Road, while also praising Celtic's Camilo Duran and questioning the SPFL's decision to play through Storm Boelo.

Storm Boelo fixture row

Storm Boelo caused disruption across Scottish football at the weekend, but no Premiership fixtures were called off. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: "Scottish football teams weather the storm but others took a battering at the weekend and were left wishing that the SFA had abandoned the Premiership card due to Storm Boelo. The only one that is blowing his trumpet is Celtic's Duran."

He added: "Hibs were robbed by the weather as were other clubs. I feel there's a storm brewing between clubs as to why the SPFL did not cancel these fixtures. Forcing clubs to play in atrocious conditions, players possibly getting seriously injured and managers losing their jobs when dropping points, never mind traveling fans lives being put at risk. Where is the duty of care? Or is this a storm in a tea cup?"

Duran saviour again

Camilo Duran was again the hero for Celtic in their comeback win over Hibs, while Kasper Hogh had another blank. Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: "I braved the elements to travel through to Edinburgh hoping to see our record signing Kasper Hogh finally go on a goalscoring run after being reinstated to the first team line up."

He continued: "And after yet another hugely disappointing performance, he makes former striker Harald Brattbakk, who also came with a huge reputation, look like Harry Kane. The secret is now to play him in all the remaining meaningless Europa matches as it's obvious the Scottish game is not to his liking. However once again Camilo Duran was our saviour again – he is to Celtic what Mariah Carey is to Christmas."

Empty seats defended

Hibs were criticised in some media quarters for leaving seats empty while Celtic filled their limited allocation. John Scott, Grassmoor, said: "Would Kris Boyd please give his mouth a rest regarding Hibs and empty seats at Easter Road? The board took the decision at the request of supporters to cut the allocation to Rangers and Celtic. Like any sensible people, they were sick and tired of listening to the bigoted chants emanating from a stand built with the sole purpose of housing visiting supporters."

He added: "Like-minded senior football reporters have condemned their disgraceful song sheets for decades yet nothing changes. Given the huge financial loss to Hibs, they should be commended not held up to ridicule by guys like Boyd. A man that if not for his media duties, would be in that same stand with his Rangers scarf on."

Celtic fans concerned

Some Celtic fans were unhappy with their team's display at Easter Road. John Caw said: "Hibs must be bad, beaten by the worst ever Celtic team that I have ever seen in over eighty years of watching them. Shocking. Martin, for the sake of football, chase them. You have nothing there. Don't know what Oxlade-Chamberlain must be thinking when he can't get a game."

Scott McAdam, Glasgow, said: "Three points at Hibs was great but that second half performance was worrying. A decent side would have battered us. We looked knackered in that second half, that same midfield will not win us the league."

There were also callers keen to criticise Hibs, who remain bottom of the table. Robert Burns said: "Congratulations to the Easter Road team for maintaining their position in the league." Ian McDonald wrote in: "Are Hibs deliberately trying to get relegated so they don't have to play Hearts? Just asking..."
