Middlesbrough Star Forgets Wife's Birthday Amid Play-Off Push
Boro Star Forgets Wife's Birthday in Play-Off Focus

Middlesbrough defender Callum Brittain has been so focused on his side's Championship play-off push that he inadvertently forgot his wife's birthday. His partner, Bethany, took to social media to reveal the moment had completely slipped his mind.

Play-Off Tension

Brittain played the full 90 minutes in the goalless draw against Southampton at the Riverside Stadium. The second leg of the play-off is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, at 8pm. Boro dominated the first half but failed to convert chances, a recurring theme in the latter part of the season. Tommy Conway came closest when he struck the post.

Southampton took control in the second half, as Boro struggled to retain possession or pin their opponents back. The visitors nearly won twice in the final five minutes, leaving the tie finely balanced for the south coast decider.

Social Media Revelation

Bethany laughed off the forgotten birthday on Instagram, writing: "If any Boro fans were worried about his level of focus, he actually forgot my birthday this morning xxx. UTFB," followed by laughing and heart emojis. Meanwhile, Brittain posted about the match atmosphere, only to be reminded by fans. He wrote: "What an incredible atmosphere! Lost for words today, inspiring support and an amazing experience, thank you Boro fans. The boys run themselves into the ground today and we’ll do the exact same Tuesday! UTFB."

Supporters commented humorously, with one saying: "Played with your heart on your sleeve as always. Now go and get the wife a birthday card." Another added: "Remember it's her birthday. Class as always!" A third continued: "I'm sorry he forgot your birthday. Happy birthday from all the Boro fans." One fan joked: "Worth forgetting the wife’s birthday for." On Sunday, the club sent Bethany a birthday gift and a handwritten letter, including a bouquet of flowers.

Premier League Ambition

Boro will aim to overcome Southampton in the second leg as they seek to end a 17-year absence from the Premier League, having last played in the top flight during the 2008/09 season.
