Bernardo Silva Delays Future Decision Until After World Cup

Bernardo Silva has decided to postpone any decision on his next club until after the World Cup, according to his agent Jorge Mendes. The Portuguese midfielder, who recently ended a decade-long stint at Manchester City, is now a free agent and has been linked with a move to Barcelona.

Mendes told transfer expert Fabrizio Romano: “Bernardo will decide after World Cup.” The 31-year-old had been expected to make an immediate choice about his future, but he will now focus on representing Portugal at the tournament in North America this summer.

Silva, who won multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League with City, enjoyed an emotional farewell on the final day of the season. He admitted: “I didn’t sleep that well last night. I wasn’t really in very condition to play, I started crying a lot in the dressing room… This group of people are just a family for me! The love that we got from these guys, I doubt I will ever get it again.”

Barcelona have a long-standing interest in Silva, while a return to his boyhood club Benfica in Lisbon also remains a possibility. The versatile playmaker has 107 caps for Portugal but has yet to progress beyond the quarter-finals of a major tournament.
