The 29-year-old American previously targeted light-heavyweight stars Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, but with Bivol's next fight set and a potential trilogy between the Russians, Benavidez moved up to cruiserweight. Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs), 34, last fought in June, outpointing Yuniel Dorticos. The Mexican southpaw aims to hand Benavidez his first professional loss.
