Michael Beale has personally refunded Zulte Waregem supporters their ticket price after the team suffered a fourth consecutive defeat, a 3-0 loss at La Louviere. The former Rangers boss, who took charge in Belgium during the summer, said he felt sorry for the travelling fans who watched the match on "a horrible evening."
Manager takes personal action after slump
Beale, who managed Rangers for ten months until he was dismissed in October 2023, has seen his side drop to tenth place in the Belgian top flight following the run of losses. The latest result prompted him to take the unusual step of refunding fans out of his own pocket.
Speaking after the game, Beale said: "I feel sorry for the fans who came here on a horrible evening. This is not an accurate reflection of the club and the players. We were not good enough."
Beale addresses supporters directly
He added: "So I will personally refund our fans their ticket price. I have already let them know this after the game when I spoke to them, because I don't want them to have to pay for a team that puts on such a performance."
Beale also acknowledged the scale of the challenge ahead, stating: "There were so many things that made me unhappy during the match. We have to realise that we have a long and difficult season ahead of us. We need to do much better than we showed."
Call for improvement
The manager concluded: "It has to improve, because this isn't the image we want to project. It's a humbling performance. Many players need to raise their game."
