Liverpool may have to wait before being able to agree a deal to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. The latest update also offers a warning to the Reds after Alexander Isak’s debut season at Anfield.
Transfer Talks Underway
Barcola has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer as they look to strengthen their forward options. New manager Andoni Iraola has added one new signing to the squad he inherited from Arne Slot, with Victor Munoz arriving in a £34.5 million deal from Osasuna.
A report from L'Equipe has stated that Liverpool and PSG are currently in talks over a potential deal for Barcola, but adds that there is a major gap in valuation between the two clubs. The report adds that both clubs are willing to be patient when it comes to negotiations, indicating the saga could drag on for the rest of the summer transfer window.
PSG's Valuation and Commitment Stance
Separate reports have suggested that PSG value Barcola at around €170 million (£145 million), particularly after Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea in a £117 million deal from Aston Villa. Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson also completed moves for fees of at least £100 million this summer.
The Athletic have also reported that PSG boss Luis Enrique only wants “committed” players in his squad next season, with suggestions that anyone who does not want to be at the club may not get any minutes.
Potential Repeat of Isak Saga
As a result, this could hint at a potential repeat of what happened before Isak became a Liverpool player last summer. Liverpool eventually agreed a £125 million deal with Newcastle on deadline day, but only after several weeks of speculation that resulted in Isak not featuring in any pre-season or Premier League matches for the Magpies before his departure. The striker was not fit to start after making the move.
Isak went on to feature just 22 times for Liverpool in his first campaign for the club, and did not make his first start until September 17 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
