Jonny Bairstow Stuck in Dubai Amid Middle East Conflict, Seeks Family Safety
Bairstow Stranded in Dubai, Aims to Keep Family Safe

Former England cricketer Jonny Bairstow has confirmed he is still stranded in Dubai with his young family, as he prioritises keeping them safe amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The 36-year-old batter, who has earned 287 caps for his country, took to social media to clarify his situation after earlier posts to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and airline Emirates highlighted travel disruptions.

Clarification on Squad Separation

Bairstow explicitly stated on X that he is not with the England Lions squad, which had been on tour in Abu Dhabi. "For those writing that I'm with the England Lions team, I am not," he wrote. "I am with my young family in Dubai. Sure the England Lions security staff will be doing all they can to get them out of Abu Dhabi, but I am trying to keep my family safe and get us out of here!!"

Impact of Airspace Closures

The conflict in the Middle East has led to airspace closures across the region, grounding numerous commercial flights since attacks began on Saturday. This has left Bairstow among over 100,000 Britons who have registered their presence in the area and may require potential evacuation. His flight with Emirates was cancelled, prompting his public appeal for better communication from the airline.

Cricket Schedule Disruptions

The England Lions' tour match in Abu Dhabi on Sunday was cancelled due to the unrest. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced that England Women's proposed trip to Abu Dhabi this week has been delayed. However, England's T20 World Cup plans remain unchanged, with the final against India scheduled for Thursday in Mumbai.

Bairstow's situation underscores the broader challenges faced by travellers and sports teams in the region, as security concerns and logistical hurdles mount. His focus remains on ensuring the safety of his family while navigating the uncertain travel landscape.
