Cleveland Guardians Catcher Austin Hedges Delivers On-Field Proposal After Victory
Cleveland Guardians catcher Austin Hedges created an unforgettable baseball moment on Sunday by proposing to his girlfriend, Lexi Dickinson, on the field immediately following his team's 8-4 Major League Baseball victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The romantic gesture came after a game where Hedges had contributed to the win by opening the scoring for his side.
Perfect Timing After Carrying Ring Since Spring Training
The 33-year-old baseball star revealed he had been carrying the engagement ring since early spring training, patiently waiting for the ideal moment to pop the question. "I've had the ring since early spring training, but was just trying to figure out when the right time was," Hedges explained. "I was going to do it regardless... but I really wanted to win that game to make it extra special."
Hedges, a popular and respected figure within the Guardians' clubhouse, saw many of his teammates remain on the field to witness the special occasion, observing from a respectful distance as Dickinson happily accepted his proposal.
Emotional Day for the Veteran Catcher
The catcher admitted to experiencing heightened emotions throughout the entire day. "I had a lot of nerves today," he confessed. "I'm always nervous for baseball games, but just trying to stay present, knowing there were some activities after made it harder. It was a special day. A special day to be able to soak it all in."
The couple began dating in November 2024, and Hedges chose this significant moment during his 12th Major League Baseball season to take their relationship to the next level. Six of those seasons have been spent with Cleveland, where he has become a valued member of the organization.
Impressive Baseball Career and Current Season Performance
Hedges brings substantial experience to the field, having made his MLB debut with San Diego in 2015 and also playing for Pittsburgh in 2023 before joining Cleveland. He reached the significant milestone of 10 years of major league service time on 30 March and boasts the impressive credential of being a 2023 World Series champion with the Texas Rangers.
This season, Hedges has maintained a .250 batting average with two RBIs in nine games, and the Guardians have maintained an undefeated 8-0 record when he starts behind the plate, adding statistical significance to his on-field proposal timing.
Celebratory Plans Following the Engagement
Following the successful proposal, while Dickinson received congratulations from friends and other Guardians spouses, Hedges quickly changed into a stylish maroon suit for their evening celebrations. "Now, we're going to go to dinner and then just have a night to ourselves and enjoy it," he added, looking forward to privately celebrating their engagement after the very public proposal.
The on-field engagement created a heartwarming conclusion to a successful game day for the Cleveland Guardians, blending athletic achievement with personal milestone in a way that captivated both baseball fans and romance enthusiasts alike.
