Askou's x-rated rant inspires Toulouse comeback vs Monaco

Toulouse have released footage of Jens Berthel Askou's fiery half-time team talk that inspired a two-goal comeback against Ligue 1 leaders Monaco on Saturday.

The club shared a clip of the former Motherwell boss going tonto at his players in an x-rated rant to try and inspire them to get a result after falling behind 2-0 at the interval.

Difficult start for Askou at Toulouse

After leading Motherwell to a fourth place finish and Conference League qualification in his lone season at Fir Park, the Dane took charge of Les Violets in the summer but has endured a tricky start in the job, with just six points collected from their first six games in the top tier, leaving them two points above the relegation zone.

They looked set for another defeat away to high-flying Monaco at the weekend, with goals from Edian Diop and Matthis Albine giving the hosts a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Second-half fightback

But after getting a firm dressing down from their manager, Toulouse rallied after the break to secure a point thanks to a penalty from Casper Tengstedt and a smart finish from Sion Oppong.

The club has now released a clip on social media of Askou, 44, going off his rocker to get a reaction from the group. The ex Goteborg and Horsens coach also compared his side's first half showing to that of a mountain lion or puma.

In the 56 second long clip, he says: "We've been the pumas. We've hunted them and had it right there, and then we let it slip, everytime."

"The difference between the f****** puma and us is that it doesn't feel sorry for itself, f****** we do."

"We feel sorry for ourselves in there, no one is connecting enough. Everyone is going 'oh it's f****** hard today, it's only Monaco'"

"F****** man up! Do you want to win? F****** fight! Keep going! I need more! It's not over!"

Welsh credits Askou for career revival

Scotland defender Stephen Welsh enjoyed a successful loan spell at Motherwell last season before leaving Celtic on a permanent transfer to join Swansea City in the summer and recently thanked Askou for helping get his career back on track.

He told Record Sport: "Things couldn't have gone any better. The season I had at Motherwell was brilliant. I owe a lot to Jens and the way he got me playing. He completely changed the way I play and the way I see football."

"The way my whole career has panned out over the last 18 months has been amazing. I probably wouldn't be playing in the English Championship now for a top team like Swansea and be getting this Scotland call-up if it hadn't been for Jens and Motherwell."

"Him being my coach and my manager has had a big impact on me."

"Playing against the likes of Celtic and Rangers, they might spend all the money but if you set up a team properly and every player knows what he is doing then you can dominate the games and win them."

"Motherwell probably had the budget of a bottom-six side but we were going to Ibrox and dominating and the same against Celtic. That was all down to Jens, putting proper detail in, trusting players to go and make mistakes. That is how you improve."

"He just simplified things for us. You can see all the moves that the boys (Elijah Just, Calum Ward and Elliot Watt) got over the summer. It is no coincidence."
