Ashley Cole has secured his first managerial role, taking over as head coach of Serie B side Cesena. The former Arsenal, Chelsea, and England left-back, 45, has been developing his coaching skills since retiring from playing in 2019.
Cole's coaching journey includes spells working alongside Frank Lampard at Derby, Chelsea, and Everton, as well as with Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City. He has also been involved with England and the Football Association in various capacities.
Cesena, currently eighth in the Italian second tier, dismissed manager Michele Mignani on Saturday before turning to Cole. The club confirmed the appointment on its website, stating: 'The entire Cesena FC family is thrilled to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team.'
Cole has signed a short-term contract until the end of June, with an option to extend 'upon the fulfilment of certain conditions.' He will be assisted by former Chelsea academy coach Jack Mesure.
