Mikel Arteta is optimistic that Jurriën Timber could be fit for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on 27 May, as the Arsenal manager faces a selection dilemma at right-back. Timber has been sidelined since 14 March with a groin injury, and a setback last month delayed his return.
Ben White has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, which may also affect his participation in the World Cup. Arteta confirmed that White will miss the remainder of the campaign, but said it is too early to determine his availability for the summer tournament.
Cristhian Mosquera is expected to start against Burnley on Monday, though Riccardo Calafiori, who returned to training after a knock, is another option. Arteta expressed hope that Timber, a key performer this season, could be ready for the final in Budapest. “He’s progressed a little bit in the last few days; he’s feeling better,” Arteta said. “We’re going to try to get him available as quickly as possible.”
When asked about Timber’s chances of facing PSG, Arteta replied: “There is a chance. But how big that chance is, I cannot tell you. He’s going to try to do everything he can to convert that chance.”
