Mikel Arteta was visibly furious with the decision to award Sunderland a penalty in the Premier League clash on Saturday night. The Gunners claimed a 2-0 victory at the Stadium of Light to maintain their 100 percent start to the season.
However, Sunderland were awarded a penalty in the second half for Ezri Konsa fouling Dan Ballard during a set-piece. Enzo Le Fee went on to miss the penalty with David Raya saving the spot-kick, only for Bruno Guimaraes to open the scoring for Arsenal less than three minutes later.
Arteta's verdict
Arteta could not hide his frustrations after the game. When asked to give his thoughts on the victory, the Arsenal boss made it clear he was not happy with the penalty that was awarded against his side.
"It could have been very different," Arteta told TNT Sports. "They could've changed the game." When asked who could've changed the game, the Arsenal boss replied. "You know who."
'Unacceptable at this level'
"It is unacceptable at this level," Arteta then added. "Unacceptable. This can change the course of a season. It's not acceptable.
"I have watched it 10 times to make sure, because I watched it live and I said it's not possible to be a penalty because it's a judo roll, that's what it is.
"This cannot happen. In my view. I have been involved in football for 27/28 years. It's not a penalty in any game, in any game, in any context in any league."
