Arteta Warns Arsenal Players: Leave If You Can't Handle Title Pressure
Arteta: Leave Arsenal if you can't handle title pressure

Mikel Arteta has issued a stark ultimatum to his Arsenal players, declaring that any individual unable to withstand the intense pressure and external criticism of a Premier League title challenge should seek a move to another football club.

North London Derby Looms Large

Arsenal prepare to face their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday in a pivotal North London derby, with their championship credentials under severe scrutiny. This critical fixture follows a disappointing 2-2 draw against bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, where the Gunners surrendered a two-goal lead.

"Noise and Bullets" Part of the Job

Addressing media suggestions that his squad might be overwhelmed by the mounting pressure, Arteta delivered a defiant response. "You ask them the question: Do you want to be part of the noise? Or not? If not, go and do something else," the Arsenal manager stated emphatically.

"Be part of a different club or do you want to be Arsenal? And everybody has been demanding for 10 years, 15 years that we need to go back there, fighting for the title, and now we are there. And now what? You don't want noise?"

Arteta elaborated that external scrutiny is an inherent part of competing at the highest level. "Noise is part of it and the bullets are part of that, and we try to deal with it in the right way and achieve what we are looking for. We have to do what we have to do. I don't think it is going to change for anybody."

Recent Form and Accusations

The manager's comments come amid a challenging period for his side. Arsenal have secured victory in only two of their last seven Premier League matches, reigniting familiar accusations of the team faltering under pressure—a label Arteta has firmly rejected.

Despite this dip, Arsenal's destiny remains firmly in their own hands. They travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium perched at the summit of the league table, following what has been a largely impressive campaign. However, the club has finished as runners-up in each of the past three seasons, adding further weight to Sunday's encounter.

"At the end, you have to win the next match," Arteta asserted. "And if you do that, you are going to be in a much stronger position, and that is the only thing we can control."

Odegaard's Fitness and Form a Concern

Team news presents another challenge, with captain Martin Odegaard's availability in doubt. The Norwegian playmaker has managed just 45 minutes of football across Arsenal's previous five fixtures due to a series of injury setbacks.

Odegaard's form has become a topic of debate, having scored only one goal this entire season and just twice in the league over the past year. However, his limited playing time has been significantly impacted by persistent fitness issues.

"The percentage of time he has been available for us has been far from ideal," Arteta admitted, expressing sympathy for his skipper. "Again, he has been part of that journey this year to deal with a lot of injuries. With us having a lot of important players out like we have now, the team has done extremely well to maintain that level."

The manager acknowledged the personal toll on the player, adding, "Injuries are the worst part of our profession when a player has a big sequence of events, and I understand how Martin wants to be involved with the team. It is tough."

Nevertheless, there remains a possibility that Odegaard could be fit to lead the team out against Tottenham, providing a significant boost for the title-chasing Gunners as they enter one of the most consequential fixtures of their season.
