Arsenal name 26-man US tour squad with key stars absent

Arsenal have announced a 26-man squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, with several first-team regulars notably absent. Manager Mikel Arteta will be without a number of key players who are still recovering from international duty at Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya and William Saliba will join the squad after the tour, having been given extended breaks following their involvement in the European Championship. Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz are expected to link up with the team on 25 July, missing the opening friendly against Bournemouth but available for matches against Manchester United and Liverpool.

Injuries have also prevented some players from travelling. Left-back Kieran Tierney suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Scotland at the Euros, and Takehiro Tomiyasu has a knee problem. Both will remain in London for treatment at the club's training centre. New signing Tommy Setford, a young goalkeeper, is included in the squad.

Emile Smith Rowe, despite reported transfer interest from Fulham and Crystal Palace, is among the travelling party. However, Charlie Patino, who spent last season on loan at Swansea City, has not been selected and is expected to leave the club this summer.

The squad includes a mix of experience and youth, with Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Leandro Trossard, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus all making the trip. Goalkeepers Karl Hein, Tommy Setford, Lucas Nygaard and Alexei Rojas are also included, alongside defenders Josh Nichols, Ayden Heaven and Omar Rekik.
