Arsenal produced a stunning second-half turnaround to beat Brighton 2-1 and extend their lead at the top of the Women's Super League to four points. The Gunners had won just one of their previous seven games, but goals from Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead cancelled out Emma Koivisto's first-half header.
Brighton took the lead in the 15th minute when Koivisto looped a header over goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger. The Seagulls, who had not scored in five league games, led the league leaders at half-time. Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall admitted his side had failed to deal with Brighton's set-piece threat despite predicting it beforehand.
Whatever was said in the dressing room at half-time worked, as Arsenal came out with renewed intensity. In the 55th minute, Mead swung in a free-kick that Miedema turned in at the back post to equalise. Five minutes later, Mead curled a stunning free-kick into the far corner to put Arsenal ahead.
Brighton manager Hope Powell praised her team's competitiveness and spirit, saying they played with freedom when not expected to win. Arsenal now face a crucial seven days with league games against Manchester United and Chelsea either side of an FA Cup tie.
