Viktor Gyokeres has hinted at a potential summer move from Sporting Lisbon, putting Arsenal and Chelsea on alert. The Swedish striker, who scored 43 goals in 50 games last season, netted a hat-trick in Sporting's 5-0 win over Farense on Friday and has started the new campaign with six goals and three assists in four matches.
Speaking after the game, Gyokeres said: 'We never know what’s going to happen. It doesn’t just depend on me. We’ll see, but I feel good here. I don’t feel any stress about doing anything else. In football, in the transfer window, it’s normal, there are things we don’t know, that happen quickly. But I love being here, there’s no stress.'
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the club remains alert for opportunities before the transfer window closes on August 30. 'We have to because anything can happen both ways,' he said. 'You have to be ready and especially in the last week. You have to be alert and prepared because a lot of surprises can come.' However, Arteta expressed confidence in his current forwards, including Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard.
Chelsea are also in the market for a striker after their deal for Samu Omorodion collapsed, with Victor Osimhen appearing a more likely target. Enzo Maresca said: 'If we have a chance to bring in a No.9 who can help us, we are going to try.'
