Thomas Tuchel has warned Myles Lewis-Skelly that his England future depends on breaking into Arsenal's starting XI. The German head coach named his latest squad on Friday, retaining the teenager despite his limited game time at club level.
Lewis-Skelly, 19, has not yet started a Premier League match this season, playing only 68 minutes off the bench. Mikel Arteta has preferred Riccardo Calafiori at left-back, with Lewis-Skelly's only starts coming in the Carabao Cup and Champions League.
'It maybe becomes a problem for him, yeah,' Tuchel said when asked about the defender's lack of starts. 'To just be a good citizen in camp will not be enough over the course of a year. You have to perform at club level on a regular basis.'
Tuchel praised Lewis-Skelly's attitude during the previous camp, noting he was 'outstanding' even when not in the matchday squad. However, he stressed that continued selection depends on regular performances for Arsenal.
Lewis-Skelly will hope to make his first Premier League start on Saturday when Arsenal host West Ham. England face Wales on October 9 and Latvia on October 14.
