Arsenal are reportedly preparing a player-plus-cash offer for Manchester City's Julian Alvarez, with Viktor Gyokeres potentially heading to Atletico Madrid as part of the deal. The Gunners have made Alvarez a top target this summer after missing out on Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea for £117m.
According to The Times, Arsenal are keen to offer Swedish striker Gyokeres to Atletico Madrid in order to secure the Argentinian World Cup winner. Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting last summer for approximately £64m, contributing 21 goals and three assists in 55 appearances during a mixed debut campaign.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stressed the need for ambitious recruitment following the club's Champions League final defeat. “We’ll have to start to make some very important decisions if we want to reach another level,” Arteta said. “We are more than capable of doing it, but it’s going to demand being very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart.”
The Gunners have already made several summer signings, including Christian Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m, free agent Illan Meslier from Leeds United, and a permanent £34m deal for Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen. However, the transfer window has proved challenging, with Chelsea's late intervention for Rogers disrupting Arsenal's plans.
Arteta is also reportedly interested in Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola, while defensive reinforcements may be sought with William Saliba set for back surgery. Free agent John Stones and Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa have been mentioned as potential targets, and Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes remains on the club's radar amid Declan Rice's hamstring issues.
