Arsenal secured their first victory at Anfield since 2012, with Kai Havertz scoring the only goal as the Gunners moved to the top of the Premier League table following Manchester City's defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta, who was in the Arsenal team the last time they won at Liverpool, saw his decision to recall Havertz to the starting lineup pay off. The German tapped home from close range after Declan Rice's run and delivery left him in space.
Defensive resilience secures the win
Arsenal survived an onslaught of Liverpool pressure to reach half-time, and the attacks continued after the break. Resolute defending and wasteful finishing from the hosts allowed the visitors to see out an impressive victory.
David Raya earned a 6/10, with his distribution wayward, but he was not seriously troubled despite the constant pressure. Jurrien Timber scored 7/10, fortunate not to concede a penalty for a first-half shirt pull on Isak, but defended well throughout.
Ezri Konsa was rated 5/10 after making a mess of his touch and needing to be bailed out by Rice shortly after Arsenal took the lead. Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori both earned 7/10, with Calafiori doing well to close down Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha on his wing.
Rice the heartbeat of the team
Declan Rice was the standout performer with 9/10, often dropping between the centre-backs to dictate play. He moved forward to overlap Madueke and deliver the perfect low cross for Havertz's goal, and later intercepted to relieve Konsa after the defender's mistake in his own penalty area.
Bruno Guimaraes earned 7/10 for a crucial intervention to deny Barcola inside the Arsenal box, while Martin Odegaard was rated 5/10 after failing to get a stranglehold on proceedings as captain.
Noni Madueke scored 6/10, composed in possession but struggling to hurt Liverpool, and risking a red card in a second-half bust-up with Alexis Mac Allister. Kai Havertz was rated 8/10, a nuisance to Virgil van Dijk and Jeremy Jacquet before finding the perfect position to open the scoring. Christos Tzolis earned 5/10, largely anonymous aside from a curling effort saved by Alisson.
Substitutes Myles Lewis-Skelly (62') earned 6/10, while Piero Hincapie (84'), Viktor Gyokeres (84') and Mikel Merino (88') were not rated.
