Arsenal 'concerned' as Arteta issues Saka injury update

Bukayo Saka lasted only 10 minutes of Arsenal's Champions League draw at Bayern Munich before collapsing in discomfort, and Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club's medical staff are "a bit concerned" about the injury.

The England international went down at the Allianz Arena after playing what appeared to be a straightforward pass, immediately raising his arm to signal for attention. He was seen clutching his thigh as medical personnel rushed onto the pitch, and his evening ended there as Eberechi Eze replaced him for the remainder of the contest.

Arteta's update on Saka

The match finished 2-2, with goals from Eze, Alphonso Davies, Harry Kane and Declan Rice. Speaking afterwards, Arteta said: "They are a bit concerned. A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we'll have to wait and see."

Any extended absence would be a significant setback for the reigning Premier League champions, given the influence Saka can exert on a fixture. His potential layoff compounds existing injury problems within Arteta's squad.

Wider injury concerns at Arsenal

Christos Tzolis is currently unavailable with a hamstring problem picked up on international duty with Greece in the Nations League, leaving Noni Madueke and Eze as the only genuine wide players available to Arsenal.

Gunners legend Martin Keown, speaking on TNT Sports, highlighted the difficulties the club could face. "Well it's worrying because Tzolis on the other wing was injured as well," he said. "Just trying to scoop it and then he goes down obviously in a lot of pain. It looks like his thigh muscle so that can be a number of weeks and they'll be scanning him tomorrow, early hours of tonight probably trying to get him fit again."

Keown added: "It's a blow though because you don't want to keep losing quality players and he started the game really but again it's the strength in depth to have Eze and playing as he did but you want this man fit. He's been magnificent for the club the last four or five years."

This comes during a pivotal spell for Arsenal, who may face this weekend's home fixture against Everton without several key players. William Saliba also remains unavailable following a back complaint that emerged during this summer's World Cup.
