Arsenal to appeal Max Dowman red card before Liverpool clash
Arsenal appeal Dowman red card before Liverpool clash

Arsenal have decided to appeal the red card shown to Max Dowman during their Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town.

The 16-year-old was sent off late in the Gunners' shock fourth-round loss on penalties to the League Two side on Tuesday night. Dowman kicked out after a heavy challenge from Harrison Neal and was shown a straight red card.

Three-match ban at stake

The dismissal means Dowman would serve a three-match suspension, but Standard Sport understands Arsenal have opted to contest the decision. The club must submit the required paperwork to the Football Association (FA) by 1pm GMT on Thursday afternoon.

Timing ahead of Anfield trip

It is hoped a ruling will be reached before Arsenal travel to face Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday. The timeframe for the decision-making process is for the FA to determine.
