Andorra keeper Owono 'broken down' after player's death

FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono has reportedly broken down following the death of Tenerife's Jesus de Miguel. The two players collided during a Spanish second division fixture, after which De Miguel required urgent medical attention. He was taken to hospital, but his condition deteriorated, and his death was confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Club statements and reaction

In an official statement, Tenerife announced: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8am, of Jesus de Miguel Alameda. There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfenismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome."

The statement added: "The family of Jesus de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments."

Owono's state and the collision

Spanish outlet AS reported that Owono was crying and praying in the dressing room after the match. He reportedly remained visibly shaken throughout the journey back to Andorra. He has since deactivated his Instagram account after reportedly being inundated with abusive messages.

It is understood that Owono had intended to reach out to De Miguel and his family to offer his apologies and support before making any public statement. However, the 30-year-old's passing has altered the situation entirely. Those close to the goalkeeper told AS: "He is a caring, very kind person. He has no malice."

The club has confirmed that the collision was accidental, with Owono having no intention of injuring his opponent. Video footage shows the goalkeeper turning to check on the stricken player while others looked away, visibly distressed. Reports emerging from Spain suggested that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and was resuscitated before being rushed to hospital, where he was placed in intensive care.

Andorra's condolences

In an official statement, Andorra said: "With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesus de Miguel, to all his team-mates, friends, and to CD Tenerife."
