Elliot Anderson scored a dramatic 88th-minute equaliser as Nottingham Forest came from behind to draw 1-1 with Newcastle United at the City Ground, moving closer to Premier League safety.
The midfielder, who joined Forest from Newcastle in a £35m deal last year, showed no sentiment as he cancelled out Harvey Barnes' 74th-minute opener. The result leaves Forest seven points clear of the relegation zone, with West Ham and Tottenham yet to play this weekend.
Forest responded well to their Europa League semi-final exit on Thursday, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to eight matches. Despite missing Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo and Ibrahim Sangare through injury, they created several chances. Dilane Bakwa was a constant threat down the left, but Taiwo Awoniyi and Jair Cunha failed to convert good opportunities.
Newcastle took the lead when Barnes raced onto Jacob Ramsey's through ball and finished clinically. However, Forest levelled late on when Anderson surged into the area, collected James McAtee's pass and fired past Nick Pope at the near post.
The draw damages Newcastle's hopes of European qualification, as their season continues to fade. Bruno Guimaraes missed several chances, while Will Osula hit the crossbar with a free-kick.
