A 34-year-old Somalia-born British man has been arrested after five pedestrians were injured when a vehicle ploughed into them in Ealing, West London. The Metropolitan Police confirmed he was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving and attempted murder. The car did not stop at the scene in Ealing Broadway but was located in nearby Grange Park a short time later, and the driver was arrested.
Police liaise with Counter Terrorism but rule out terrorism
Met Police liaised with Counter Terrorism Policing London during initial enquiries, but the incident is not being treated as terrorist-related. A force spokesperson said: 'Due to the nature of the incident, local officers were in contact with officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London as they conducted their initial enquiries. While investigators are keeping an open mind as to any potential motive, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.'
Injuries and emergency response
The incident occurred at 2:29pm on June 27, 2026. Two pedestrians were treated outside M&S at Ealing Broadway, while three were taken to hospital. None suffered life-threatening or life-changing injuries, but one person was rushed to a major trauma centre. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We were called at 2.29pm today to reports of a road traffic collision in Ealing Broadway, W5. We sent a number of resources, including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, a volunteer emergency responder crew, and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance. We treated three patients at the scene and took one of them to a major trauma centre by road as a priority. The other two patients were taken to a local hospital.'
Witness accounts and road closures
A witness who filmed the emergency response shared a video on X, describing the scene as 'looked serious'. They added: 'There's a car with some damage to its rear bumper. One person has been picked up and put into an ambulance, and there's two people lying on the floor.' Alexander Stafford, a former councillor for Ealing Broadway from 2014 to 2021, wrote on X: 'Absolutely horrific news from Ealing Broadway – as a councillor I used to represent this area and used to work in that very M&S. Praying for a speedy recovery for all the injured.'
Investigation ongoing
Ealing Broadway has been closed in both directions between High Street and Spring Bridge Road, with several bus routes diverted. The Met said closures could 'remain in place for some time'. Police have asked anyone with information or footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference 4607/27JUN.
