Manchester City Women completed a historic Double by thrashing Brighton 4-0 in the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley, adding the trophy to their first Women's Super League title in a decade. Khadija Shaw, fresh from signing a lucrative new contract, opened the scoring with a powerful header, before Alex Greenwood's free-kick, Aoba Fujino's deflected effort and Vivianne Miedema's angled header sealed a comprehensive victory.
Despite the scoreline, Brighton started strongly and missed early chances through Fran Kirby and Kiko Seike. City took the lead against the run of play when Greenwood's cross was met by Shaw, who outjumped goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to nod in. Greenwood then doubled the lead just before half-time with a clever free-kick that caught the Brighton wall and Nnadozie off guard.
Shaw nearly added a second later in the game but was denied by a fine save from Nnadozie. She was substituted to a warm ovation, replaced by Laura Coombs, who made her final appearance before retirement. Miedema, introduced with under half an hour remaining, added a late fourth with a glancing header from Kerstin Casparij's cross.
Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic praised his side's performance but acknowledged City's clinical edge. 'We pinned them back and caused issues, but conceding two soft goals made it difficult,' he said. 'The result is a little unfair on the girls for their effort and bravery.'
The win marked City's fourth Women's FA Cup title, making them the fifth most successful club in the competition's history, behind Chelsea and Doncaster Belles on six each.
