The Ivorian winger was dropped to the bench for Sunday's Premier League clash, with Benjamin Sesko taking his place in the attack.
Shortly after the match, Amad shared an image of himself celebrating in a United kit on Snapchat, accompanied by text that translates to: "What is meant to grow does not stay in the same place forever." The timing of the post, coming after his demotion, has raised concerns about his contentment at the club.
Amad had started every league game under caretaker manager Michael Carrick prior to Sunday. He has made 23 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists. His most recent goal came in December's 4-4 draw with Bournemouth before he departed for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Carrick's decision to start Sesko was influenced by pundits, including former United defender Gary Neville, who had urged the manager to give the Slovenian a chance. "I think now on Sunday Michael Carrick starts him," Neville told Sky Sports. "I think Amad will just slip out for a game."
