Chelsea Target Alyssa Thompson in Record Move from Angel City

Chelsea have launched a bid to sign Angel City winger Alyssa Thompson, with the Women's Super League champions eager to complete a deal before the transfer window closes next Thursday. The 20-year-old USA international is regarded as one of the game's brightest young talents and has eight goal involvements in 16 NWSL appearances this season.

Thompson, who was the first overall pick in the 2023 NWSL draft at age 18, has already earned 22 senior caps for the United States, making her debut in October 2022 against England at Wembley when she was just 17. Any move for the California-born winger would command one of the largest transfer fees in women's football, though no agreement has yet been reached.

Chelsea, who won a domestic treble under Sonia Bompastor last season, have had a relatively quiet transfer window. They have signed Australia defender Ellie Carpenter from Lyon for an undisclosed fee, along with goalkeepers Livia Peng and Becky Spencer, and forward Mara Alber. The club are now looking to add a world-class winger to their ranks ahead of the new season.

The WSL champions begin their campaign on 5 September against Manchester City. Thompson would provide a significant attacking threat if the deal goes through, adding depth to a side aiming to retain their league title.
