Carlos Alcaraz has offered a message of support to Jannik Sinner after the Italian announced he will spend the rest of 2026 recovering from a knee injury.
Sinner missed the US Open with the injury and has not played a competitive match since winning Wimbledon in July. He withdrew from the US Open in August and has now confirmed he will not return to court before the end of the year.
Sinner's season ends early
As a result, the 25-year-old will miss the ATP Finals in November, and there is concern over whether he will be fit for the Australian Open in the New Year.
In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Sinner said: "Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over."
He added: "The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions. This year is going to be way different. But at the moment I also need to think about my long-term career."
Alcaraz's message and return
Alcaraz, one of Sinner's rivals, commented on the Italian's Instagram post: "Man! You will come Back stronger keep your head up, wishing you a speed recovery."
Alcaraz has also dealt with injury issues this year, with a wrist injury forcing him to miss the French Open and Wimbledon. He returned for the US Open last month, reaching the quarter-final at Flushing Meadows, where he lost in five sets to eventual runner-up Ben Shelton.
Alcaraz won the Japan Open this week, beating Jiri Lehecka in Tokyo on Tuesday.
