Troy Aikman Reveals Miami Dolphins Advisory Role Similar to Tom Brady's Raiders Position
Aikman's Dolphins Advisory Role Mirrors Brady's Raiders Position

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has publicly discussed his new advisory position with the Miami Dolphins, a role that bears notable similarities to Tom Brady's situation with the Las Vegas Raiders, though with distinct limitations in ownership and influence.

Aikman's Intelligence Gathering Role for the Dolphins

While not holding minority ownership like Brady does with the Raiders, Aikman will leverage his extensive network as a national NFL announcer to provide the Dolphins with valuable league intelligence. The Dallas Cowboys legend explained that the franchise recognized the unique insights he could offer through his professional relationships.

'I think the Dolphins were wise in understanding my relationships around the league and knowing that I have information that they don't have or can't get,' Aikman stated during an appearance on the DLLS Dallas Cowboys Podcast with Clarence Hill Jr. 'And I think they were smart in taking advantage of that, whether it was through me or through somebody else.'

Comparing Access Levels with Brady's Raiders Position

The ESPN Monday Night Football commentator will likely receive similar access privileges to those granted to Brady, who serves as a Fox Sports analyst alongside his Raiders ownership role. Brady remains prohibited from attending practices or visiting team facilities in person but can participate in production meetings that potentially provide access to sensitive strategic information.

It remains uncertain whether Aikman will obtain identical treatment in his still-evolving Miami position, but he has clarified that his influence won't match Brady's level in Las Vegas. 'It's kind of scratched that itch, but, you know, I don't have any ownership,' Aikman acknowledged. 'I don't have the influence, if you will, that Tom seemingly has there with the Raiders. So it looks similar, but I'm not so sure that is.'

Clear Allegiance to Miami's Success

One unambiguous aspect is Aikman's newfound support for the Dolphins franchise. 'But I will say I'm pulling for the Dolphins, because now I have something at stake,' he told Hill, marking a departure from his typically neutral broadcasting stance.

Consultant Contributions and Draft Implications

Officially designated as a 'special consultant,' Aikman has already contributed to Miami's recent front office restructuring, assisting in the search that resulted in hiring general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, who subsequently appointed former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as head coach.

'And I think they hired two really talented, wonderful people, and I think that's gonna prove itself out,' Aikman commented regarding the appointments. 'But, yeah, I'm pulling for them. I want to see them do well because I feel like my fingerprints are on it as well.'

The Dolphins currently hold the 11th overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, facing significant roster decisions following the departures of receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, alongside defensive needs across the line and secondary positions.

Future Involvement and Quarterback Perspective

Aikman's ongoing contributions to the organization remain fluid and undefined. 'I'll continue to help in ways that are yet to be defined,' he explained, while reflecting on the common mindset among veteran quarterbacks regarding team management.

'I think all franchise quarterbacks that have been in the league for any length of time, I think we all come out of the game thinking that we could run a team, and know what it takes, and certainly having been a part of some championship teams, and I know what the locker room feels like, and what a winning locker room should be like.'
