The Adidas Dropset 4, billed as the brand's most versatile functional training shoe, has been put through its paces by a fitness writer and CrossFit coach. The shoe aims to improve upon its predecessor by adding 'runnability' while maintaining stability for lifting.
Weighing in at 316g in a UK 10.5 – nearly 100g lighter than the Dropset 3 – the new model features Repetitor foam along the midsole for extra bounce. The reviewer found the shoe felt comfortable from the off, though noted it fits small and recommended ordering half a size up or potentially a full size larger.
During testing, the Dropset 4 performed well under heavy squats of 100kg or more, with no unwanted compression and stable heel support. The lighter weight made it more nimble for circuit workouts and interval running of 800m or less, addressing a key weakness of the previous version.
The shoe launched at £110, which is £20 less than many competitors. While the forefoot could be slightly wider for toe splay, overall the reviewer concluded that Adidas has now found its groove for HIIT and CrossFit-style workouts, comparing the feel to a more advanced Reebok Nano 8 or 9.
