Andoni Iraola has been approached by AC Milan, with the Italian giants sounding out his representatives following his departure from Bournemouth. The Spaniard's exit was announced several months ago, but he ended his three-year spell on a high by leading the Cherries into Europe for the first time in their history.
Iraola's Success at Bournemouth
Iraola's style of play drew widespread praise throughout his time on the south coast. He left Bournemouth after an 18-match unbeaten run, which ultimately saw them finish sixth in the Premier League. Reflecting on his final game, Iraola said: "I knew it would be almost impossible to get Europe, but the owner told me we want to stay in the Premier League. However, I wanted Europe. For me to finish this season giving back to the owner, players, and supporters with this European qualification is just one way of thanking everyone."
AC Milan's Interest
AC Milan have made moves just 24 hours after the Premier League season ended. The Italian club have just sacked Max Allegri after missing out on the Champions League. Milan lost seven of their final 14 games, while rivals Inter won their second Serie A title in three seasons. A statement from Milan's owners, American investment group RedBird Capital, read: "The final stretch was completely inconsistent with the performance up to that point, with last night's disappointing loss in the final game turning the season into an unequivocal failure. It is now time for change and a comprehensive reorganization of football operations."
Wholesale Changes at Milan
Chief executive Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada have also left the club as part of the overhaul. Iraola was among those linked with the Manchester United job following Ruben Amorim's sacking and has also been eyed by Crystal Palace. In Germany, Bayer Leverkusen have expressed an interest, but Milan are looking to steal a march by hiring the Spaniard, who is still to prove himself at a big club.
Other Potential Suitors
Iraola's representatives have been contacted by several clubs keen on landing his services. The 42-year-old has built a reputation for attacking football and developing young players. His success at Bournemouth has put him on the radar of top European clubs. Milan are hoping to secure his signature quickly to lead their rebuild.
