Aberdeen are still waiting to see if they can ramp up their interest in Jadel Katongo. The full-back is on a list of targets that the Dons’ recruitment team has put forward to Stephen Robinson.
Aberdeen have since touched base with Kayserispor to see what the financial side of things would look like. There had been some reports from Turkey over the weekend that Katongo had terminated his deal with Kayserispor, but Aberdeen officials don’t believe this is the case and the 21-year-old is still contracted to the Turkish Second Division side.
Record Sport understands that it could be quite complex to get a deal over the line. The former Manchester City defender hasn’t played as regularly as he would have hoped since he left the Premier League club at the turn of the year. Aberdeen also wouldn’t be able to get near the ex-England under-20’s current wage. It remains to be seen if a loan would be an option or if he could agree a termination.
Robinson’s defensive options
Robinson is still looking to add a right-sided defender. He played Dylan Lobban against Brora Rangers and Kelty Hearts, while Lewis Mayo started against Queen’s Park and Brad Lyons was in for the Queen of the South game. Experienced defender Nicky Devlin has found himself on the fringes.
Aberdeen are still looking to add another winger and full-back. That could be added to if they can move some of their other squad players on.
