Jake Paul has reignited his rivalry with Canelo Alvarez by claiming he has a whopping $200 million offer to make the blockbuster fight happen. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has not fought since being knocked out by Anthony Joshua in December, but is seemingly targeting a return to action soon.
Reignited Talks
The pair agreed to a stunning showdown in May last year, but boxing fans were left shocked after the Mexican instead decided to put pen to paper on a lucrative multi-fight deal with Riyadh Season, which included a historic showdown with Terence Crawford. Paul has not fought since his crushing knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua back in December. The YouTuber-turned-boxer broke his jaw in two places during the sixth-round stoppage loss to the former two-time heavyweight world champion and has been recovering ever since.
While the American is still yet to return to sparring, he is targeting some of the biggest names in boxing and has recently dropped a major bombshell after he sent Alvarez, a four-weight world champion, a $200 million offer to make the highly anticipated fight come to fruition.
Social Media Revelation
The social media sensation revealed to Betr: "Canelo, I have the $200 million for you — easy money. Jake vs Canelo, let's get it done. This is what the fans have been waiting for. This is the biggest fight that could possibly be made in boxing. Canelo said he's down on the phone, so we're going to make it happen. I have the $200 million. I think that's going to be the next fight. Sign the contract, Canelo. Much respect to you. Let's make the biggest fight in boxing happen."
Paul's comments come just days after he raised concerns over his fighting future in an interview with Ariel Helwani. "I'm getting some new scans in a couple of days, of the jaw, to get an update on the healing process. We'll see what the doctors say," he admitted. "I think I'll be able to get a more accurate timeframe — or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility. It does feel a lot better as the weeks go by, but I definitely need to get cleared to be able to spar. I'm staying in shape and enjoying some mitt work. I'm always in the gym regardless."
Alvarez's U-Turn
Alvarez appears to have performed a major U-turn as of late regarding a fight with Paul after stating on the Full Send Podcast in 2023 that he would only take on the YouTuber-turned-boxer once he is done with the sport. "When I'm done with boxing, why not? Yeah, maybe," he said. "I think it's good cause, what happens is other people who never watch boxing, they don't know anything about boxing, they want to watch Jake Paul because he brings fans from another world."
The Mexican has not fought since losing his undisputed super-middleweight titles to Crawford back in September. 'Saul' is reportedly set to return in September against Christian Mbilli. According to Ring Magazine, the two stars will headline a 'Mexico vs the World' event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
