Donald Trump's "miraculous" golf statistics have come under scrutiny after he was reportedly seen cheating to win a recent tournament. The US President claimed victory in the club championship at his Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey at the weekend, but social media users questioned the result.
Trump's Winning Record
It has now been revealed that Trump, who is 80 years old, "almost never loses" rounds of golf and has won a staggering 43 championships. He carded a two-under par score of 70 to win the recent tournament but was accused of using the "Finger of God" to improve the lie of his ball.
Discussing his victory on Sky News, correspondents David Blevins and James Matthews explained how Trump claims to rarely lose at his beloved sport despite previously saying he would be "too busy" to play while he was president.
Reaction and Allegations
David Blevins said on the podcast: "I wouldn't fancy our chances against the latest Bedminster Club Championship winner, one Donald Trump."
James Matthews added: "A two under par 70 which I'm led to believe is a good score. That was Donald Trump's 43rd club championship win, reportedly. For a man who said in 2016 that he would be 'too busy' as a president to play golf, he's clearly been practising."
Blevins then questioned whether he "is playing fairly", adding: "He loves to play the game. Around 20 luxury golf courses around the world have Trump's name all over them. He insists that he and his courses are the best on the planet."
"He also claims that he almost never loses, except we've seen in the past that he has caddies who help him a little along the way."
Social Media Criticism
Following Trump's reported victory at the weekend, one clip, shared on X by the account @BlueDem2024, was captioned: "Trump golf highlights… 'Finger of God' for the win." The post also encouraged viewers to "watch his finger at the end and make your own conclusion."
A number of people also criticised the president, with many agreeing his winning score was not legitimate. One said: "I've seen his swing, he didn't shoot 70 unless he cheated and played from the short tees. No way."
Another added: "It's funny that he cheats to win and knows this. But he doesn't care. He just wants to win by whatever means."
Matthews continued on the podcast: "There are also videos of Donald Trump dropping golf balls in favourable locations. And what people are calling the 'finger of god', of course, the president discretely helping his golf ball into the hole as he bends over."
"It's bad of course but it doesn't compare to Kim Jong II, the father of the current Kim Jong Un, who on his one and only round of golf claimed to have got no less than 11 holes in one."
