Former Runcorn Linnets manager Dave Wild has died, the club confirmed on Saturday. Tributes have praised his dedication and heart.
Club announces death
Runcorn Linnets, who compete in the Northern Premier League Division One West, announced the news on their social media pages. A spokesperson said: "Runcorn Linnets are shocked and saddened to have received news of the death of our former manager Dave Wild...Our sympathy and condolences go to Dave's family and friends at this distressing time."
Wild took charge of Runcorn Linnets in summer 2022. He presided over 47 games, with a record of 27 wins, seven draws and 13 losses.
Career and tributes
His last match as manager was in March of the following year, after being dismissed with immediate effect. He later had a spell at Ossett United in West Yorkshire. Prior to Runcorn, Wild managed Mossley AFC in Greater Manchester between March 2018 and February 2020.
A spokesperson for Mossley AFC said: "We'll remember him as a manager who gave everything he had to the job and someone who oversaw the start of bringing Mossley AFC closer to the community and connecting with our fans. Always a character, he'll be sadly missed by all those who knew him well. We'll be marking Dave's passing at a game in the coming weeks. We send all our love to Dave's family and friends at this terrible time. Rest in peace, Wildy."
The ECHO understands Wild was originally from the Stockport area of Greater Manchester and was in his late 30s. The ECHO also understands he had children. His cause and date of death have not been confirmed. However, Greater Manchester Police previously issued an appeal in January last year and said they were "increasingly concerned" after Wild went missing from home.

Zimbabwean international Alec Mudimu said: "Absolutely devastating news. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He single-handedly brought my career back from nothing. Thank you for all the memories and [for] standing by my side gaff I'm forever grateful. A great manager and an even better person."
Everton Fan Advisory Board wrote: "Thoughts with all Dave's family and friends and all Linnets fans. RIP Dave." Prescot Cables added: "Awful news."
Responding to the announcement on the Linnets' Facebook page, Jeff Jago wrote: "I'll always be grateful to Dave. It was him who involved our Dan in the first team. His heart was always in the right place. Rest in peace now Dave." Josh McCluskey said: "He had his quirks but he was a great manager and built a great squad with us too. Sad news. Rest in peace Wildy, thanks for the memories." Andy Hayes added: "Sad news. Sending love to all his family and friends. Gave us some great memories."
