Mohamed Salah has issued a rallying cry to his Trabzonspor team-mates after a disastrous Europa League exit to Ferencvaros on Thursday saw his manager resign. The Turkish side refused Fatih Tekke's offer as the side fell into disarray following the defeat.
Salah's Commitment to Trabzonspor
Salah signed for the Turkish outfit during the summer after concluding his Anfield career at the end of last season. The Egyptian terminated his contract despite it having a year left to run.
The Super Lig side dropped into the Conference League on Thursday night after suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat to Ferencvaros. Salah was unable to prevent his side from succumbing to the loss and was substituted after 64 minutes.
Manager's Resignation Rejected
Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke declared his resignation in a dramatic post-match press conference. "I think I have the right to punish myself in this way," he said.
The club promptly refused Tekke's resignation, though. "Fatih Tekke has decided to resign due to the emotional intensity caused by the defeat following the Ferencvaros match," a club statement read. "As the Trabzonspor Board of Directors, Fatih Tekke's resignation decision has not been accepted. Fatih Tekke continues in his role and will be at the helm of our team in the Amedspor match we will play in the league."
Salah's Rallying Cry
Salah has now reaffirmed his desire for success with Trabzonspor. The 34-year-old confirmed he remains committed to his new club. "Nothing in my career ever came easy," he posted on X. "Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies. Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. 'I came here to win' is not just a slogan to me."
Trabzonspor won the race for Salah's signature in the summer, with the 34-year-old greeted by considerable excitement upon his arrival. Upon putting pen to paper on a two-year deal, he said: "The last couple of days, it's an experience I have never had in my life. I'm here to win. I want to win something with this club because you guys have showed me so much love, and I really, really appreciate that."
