Xbox x McDonald's menu review: Sour Cherry Fizz is the winner
Xbox x McDonald's menu review: Sour Cherry Fizz is the winner

McDonald's has launched an Xbox-themed menu to mark the console maker's 25th anniversary, and a full taste test reveals a clear winner: the Forza Horizon 6 Sour Cherry Fizz drink. The menu, available from August 25 for an unspecified limited time, includes five new items plus a sixth in new packaging.

Halo McNuggets and Fallout bites impress

The Black Pepper and Garlic McNuggets, inspired by the moa dishes of Halo, retain a succulent chicken taste with a crisp batter that pops in the mouth thanks to garlic and black pepper spices. The reviewer said they would happily swap these for normal McNuggets in a typical order.

The Blamco Cheesy Potato Bites, inspired by Blamco Mac and Cheese from Fallout, came a very close second. These rings of potato with a cheesy filling give off a mightily familiar flavour to the boxed food you'd likely end up eating in a nuclear fallout.

Dip and desserts fall short

The Fiery Buffalo dip, inspired by World of Warcraft, was not for the reviewer. Both they and their partner detected an overwhelming vinegar flavour, which was confirmed as a primary ingredient. The Candy Crush Choco McFlurry was described as pretty basic, pairing whip ice cream with rich chocolate sauce and crunchy chocolate biscuit balls.

The Kiriko-themed sugar donut from Overwatch is not a new food item, instead using the existing sugar donut in rebranded packaging, so it was not included in the review.

Sour Cherry Fizz is the standout

The Sour Cherry Fizz, inspired by Forza Horizon 6 and its Japan setting, is Sprite Zero mixed with a sour cherry flavoured syrup. The sharp, tangy taste was incredibly refreshing, and the reviewer's partner said she "wished they sold that in a bottle". Despite tasting sugary, the drink is actually sugar free, using both Sprite Zero and a sugar-free syrup.

The verdict is that the Halo McNuggets and Fallout Blamco Cheese Bites are worth ordering again, while the Sour Cherry Fizz makes the whole menu worth it. The desserts are nothing too special, and the sauce is overpowering with its vinegar flavour. The order was provided by PR for review purposes.
