ITV will broadcast the legal thriller series The Rainmaker, based on John Grisham's best-selling novel, starting Friday 28 August at 9pm. The star-studded American programme will air weekly and will also be available to stream on ITVX.
The series centres on Rudy Baylor, a character fresh out of law school, who goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond and his law school girlfriend, Sarah. According to a synopsis, Rudy, along with his boss, Bruiser, and her dishevelled paralegal, Deck, uncovers two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client's son.
Wirral actor takes the lead
Wirral actor Milo Callaghan takes on the role of Rudy Baylor. Callaghan is best known for playing Seb Burrows in Rivals, as well as roles in The Spanish Princess and Video Nasty.
Callaghan grew up in Hoylake and was destined to become an actor after his mother trained as an actress at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is believed to have studied at St Anselm's College in Birkenhead, Merseyside, before graduating from Queens' College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Cambridge Footlights.
Star-studded cast
The cast also includes Mad Men's John Slattery as Leo Drummond, Once Upon a Time's Lana Parrilla as Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone, and Jumanji star Madison Iseman as Sarah Plankmore. Other cast members include The Wolf of Wall Street actor P.J. Byrne as Deck Shifflet, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Dan Fogler as Melvin Pritcher, Bodkin's Robyn Cara as Kelly Riker, and The Split's Karen Bryson as Dot Black.
Callaghan previously spoke about his path into acting, telling 5ELEVEN Magazine: "My mother trained as an actress at the Conservatoire in Glasgow, so growing up, theatre was all around me. I was immersed in it. I always knew I was going to act, even if it wasn't professionally. At Cambridge, I became very involved with drama and put on some wonderful plays with wonderful people." He added that in his second year he reached out to a few agents, and one later introduced himself after a show in Edinburgh.
The Rainmaker is available to watch on ITV and ITVX from Friday 28 August.
