Piers Morgan has reignited his feud with Jamie Carragher, branding the Liverpool icon a 'big baby' during a live broadcast of his Football Uncensored show. The pair have been locked in a bitter social media spat over recent days, sparked by Carragher's criticism of Morgan's defence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Carragher had previously hit out at Morgan for his 'embarrassing' support of Ronaldo following the forward's walkout during a Portugal match. Morgan, however, used his platform to fire back, referencing an incident where Ronaldo refused to acknowledge Carragher on live television.
Morgan's 'big baby' jibe
On the show, Morgan said: "Jamie Carragher and I had an interesting little spat at the weekend fuelled by Carragher saying that Rio Ferdinand and I had been embarrassing defending Cristiano Ronaldo because we're friends of his."
He added: "And Carragher, as we might remember, got pied live on Sky by Ronaldo, who refused to even acknowledge his existence which might be why he's being such a big baby about it."
Morgan's colleague Simon Jordan also weighed in, questioning why Carragher had been snubbed by Ronaldo. Jordan said: "Why did Jamie get pied by Ronaldo? I'll tell you why. Because he made critical observations and the reasons why you get into a rather unsightly and I would say beneath you spat with Jamie Carragher, although I don't think anything is actually beneath you."
Jordan mocks Morgan's follower count
As Morgan attempted to compare his social media following to Carragher's, Jordan retorted: "What are you, 12? You know the followers, half of them dislike you intensely and half of them like you. You're in that fabulous position of being a marmite which is the exact way you want to be."
Jordan then mocked Morgan further, saying: "Who do I know who's got loads of followers? I know, Ronaldo, and I'll be his best mate," prompting Morgan to ask: "Are you cynically suggesting I exploit our friendship for followers?"
Carragher hits back on social media
Morgan's latest outburst follows his earlier social media posts responding to Carragher's comments. Morgan wrote: "So, @Carra23 dislikes me (and @rioferdy5) sticking up for our friend @Cristiano, or as he puts it 'defending the indefensible.' Here is the same Jamie Carragher supporting his friend Luis Suarez after he racially abused Patrice Evra."
He added: "But when it comes to 'defending the indefensible', I do admit I have sometimes done that @Carra23." Morgan then referenced a 2018 tweet in which he defended Carragher after his spitting incident, writing: "Jamie Carragher was stupid to spit at that car, but no more stupid than the father was to be filming Carragher as he drove his daughter. So I hope @Carra23 keeps his job."
Carragher responded on social media, acknowledging the team's support for Suarez was wrong and that he had apologised to Evra on television years ago. He also accused Morgan of getting personal and being a sycophant for interviews, adding: "You batter people every day, when it's the other way you storm out of a tv studio or get personal. All to get another interview you sycophant."
Carragher also shared an old newspaper column where Morgan had called Ronaldo a 'spoilt brat', writing: "What an absolute phoney you are." Morgan had the final word, sharing a selfie of the pair and writing: "Mate, I even did a fan selfie for you recently to boost your profile…show a little gratitude!"
