McCann urged to prove Rangers handball claim to SFA
McCann urged to prove Rangers handball claim to SFA

Kilmarnock boss Neil McCann has been accused of "greeting" about a Rangers handball claim with no real evidence. Former referee Steve Conroy has challenged the Rugby Park gaffer to put forward evidence of a mistake by VAR in the Light Blues' 3-1 win - or move on.

Goal Controversy

Kevin Kelsy took down a Dan Neil cross on the edge of the box, before the £9million man tripped to the floor as he took down the ball. McCann insisted that the Venezuelan international used his hand at this stage, but referee Matthew MacDermid did not intervene. The frontman would set himself before lashing the ball beyond Killie goalkeeper Calum Ferrie, with Grant Irvine in the VAR room refusing to act.

McCann vented his frustration at the decision following the full-time whistle, but two former SFA whistlers took a different view to the Killie gaffer.

Former Referees' Views

Speaking to The Ref's View, Des Roache said: "Absolutely not [a handball]. Kelsy has chested the ball and fallen down. My interpretation of it, who can tell if he has handled the ball? We do not have the technology to actually tell that. So, VAR can't get involved. The referee hasn't got involved. The assistant referee hasn't got involved, it's a goal. He [Neil McCann] can feel like he has got a real problem with it, but why? There is no critical examination of the handball. No, it's a goal."

Conroy went on the offensive - challenging McCann to put forward his case to the SFA rather than flagging the point at full-time: "I can't see a handball. That doesn't mean that there wasn't a handball - there might have been but 'probably' and 'kinda' and 'looks like' is not good enough. So you might have a problem with it, but who cares? Prove it. There is absolutely nothing to suggest there is a foul in that lead up. Believe it was a handball if you want, but that is entirely up to you. But there is nothing to disprove that the team got it right on the field. Move on, end of discussion, stop greeting about it. If you have proof of these things come and show it."

McCann's Response

McCann said at full-time: "We gifted Rangers three goals. I've got a real problem with the second one - I think it's a handball. We gave Rangers a 3-0 lead but there was still lots we did well in the first half. At 2-0, you've got two gilt-edged opportunities and we haven't worked the goalkeeper. At half-time, I had a few words to the team and we've come out and dominated the game."
