Man United vs Tottenham: 15 players could miss clash

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur meet in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday night with both clubs potentially missing as many as 15 players through injury. Michael Carrick's side are playing their first match after the extended international break and will be without several key names.

United's injury list grows

Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui are both set to miss the clash after picking up injuries during the international break. Carrick confirmed Dorgu's problem is significant.

"Patrick came off and looks like he'll be out for probably a number of weeks," Carrick said. "Nous [Mazraoui] came off and took a knock. He's not quite right yet, so we'll have to see how he is."

Benjamin Sesko is also guaranteed to be unavailable after the striker withdrew from the Slovenia squad and missed the draw with Fulham before the international break through injury.

Late fitness checks

There will be late checks on the fitness of Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, after the duo withdrew from the England squad at the start of the international break. Carlos Baleba and Amad Diallo have returned to training but neither has made their first appearance of the season.

"Carlos [Baleba] has improved, he's trained a lot," Carrick said. "Amad's done a little bit of training, Marcus has done a little bit of training, Kobbie's done a little bit of training."

"So, a little bit mixed really between the group. Ben's a little bit further away with the issue he's got, so he won't be ready."

It remains to be seen if Matthijs de Ligt has returned to full fitness as the defender continues to recover from a back injury that has kept him sidelined since last November. Manuel Ugarte remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury, while there are question marks over the fitness of goalkeeping duo Karl Darlow and Tom Heaton.

Tottenham's absentees

Tottenham will also have several members of their squad unavailable for selection. Manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven are fit to start after picking up knocks during the international break.

De Zerbi also hopes to have James Maddison available, but admitted the playmaker had suffered a setback in training. "He [Maddison] is available but he lost three/four days in the beginning of this week and the end of the last week," De Zerbi said.

However, there will be no Pedro Porro or Mykhailo Mudryk, with De Zerbi confirming the duo are not available to face United. Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain long-term absentees for Tottenham and will not be available.
