Steven Gerrard made an under-the-radar return to Ibrox to take in Rangers' thumping win over Celtic – and he lived it up with some of his former players in the aftermath.
Derek McInnes' team ran riot with a 3-0 win over their bitter rivals to reach the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals, a double from Dan Neil either side of Kevin Kelsy's goal sealing a resounding derby win. It was their fifth win on the spin under McInnes and the new boss' most important yet as he gets things back on the rails after a turbulent start.
Former Boss Joins the Celebrations
All of a light blue persuasion were in party mode afterwards, and former boss Gerrard was no exception. There was no sign of him on Premier Sports' coverage and he wore a baseball cap throughout, perhaps an attempt to keep the cameras at bay as he took in the action.
But after the game the Englishman surfaced on social media with a few snaps of him celebrating with his former players. He shared one pic with Scott Arfield, another popular former Ger who came along for the ride. And Gerrard also met up with Andy Halliday, posting a snap of the pair on his Instagram story.
Fans Spot Subtle Message
His selfie with Halliday was accompanied by Roy Orbison's Penny Arcade – a popular Ibrox terrace tune which went viral during the week when Derek McInnes was seen fist-bumping along to a rendition of it in the late stages of Rangers' win over St Mirren.
A show of solidarity from one former Rangers boss to the current incumbent? Maybe, maybe not. But Rangers fans are lapping it up either way.
