Gabby Logan explains Seedorf absence as he lands Corinthians job

Gabby Logan has confirmed that Clarence Seedorf was absent from Amazon Prime's punditry team for Manchester United's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid because he has been appointed head coach of Brazilian club Corinthians.

The former Dutch international, a regular on Amazon Prime's European night coverage, signed a deal with Corinthians until the end of 2027. The club are battling relegation in 16th place, one spot above the drop zone with eight games left to play.

Logan's on-air announcement

Speaking before Amazon Prime's coverage of the match at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Logan said: "I am delighted to have Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Alan Shearer alongside me, but we are missing someone. I want to congratulate Clarence Seedorf on his appointment and everybody at Prime, would like to congratulate Clarence Seedorf on his appointment at Brazilian side Corinthians."

She added: "Clearly they've been watching our output and hearing his wisdom. He's going to, of course, unite with two people you know very well, two former Manchester United players - Jesse Lingard and Memphis Depay. Any advice for him on how to get the best out of those two?"

Pundits react to Seedorf's move

Young quipped in response as his fellow pundits laughed: "Good luck. I wish well. That's the best advice I can give him."

Logan then said in a heartfelt message: "We are going to miss him and do wish him all the very, very best."

Seedorf's new role and background

Seedorf replaces former Brazil interim national coach Fernando Diniz, who was sacked last week following seven straight defeats for Corinthians.

His last coaching role was with the Cameroon national team over seven years ago, and he has had spells at AC Milan, Shenzhen FC and Deportivo La Coruna after retiring in 2014.

The 50-year-old Dutch icon said: "Taking on this challenge is an honour, but also a huge responsibility. I am here to give my all and build a team that fights for every ball, every minute, every victory."
