Argentina secured their place in the World Cup 2026 final with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over England, courtesy of a late header from Lautaro Martinez.
England Take the Lead Through Gordon
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring for England ten minutes into the second half, getting in front of Nahuel Molina at the back post to guide home a cross from Morgan Rogers. The goal gave England hope of reaching their first World Cup final since 1966.
Fernandez and Martinez Turn the Tide
Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez equalised with a stunning long-range effort, beating England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from distance. Then, with time running out, Lautaro Martinez headed in Lionel Messi's cross to complete the turnaround and send Argentina through to a second successive World Cup final.
Heartbreak for England
The Three Lions will now have to wait another four years for a chance to reach the World Cup final. Argentina will face either France or Portugal in the final.
