Yannick Bolasie, the former Crystal Palace, Everton, and Aston Villa winger, was rushed to hospital over the weekend after suffering a rare pancreas injury during a collision in Brazil.
The 37-year-old, now playing for Chapecoense, was hurt in a challenge with Kaique Kenji in the final moments of the first half of their Copa do Brasil clash against Cruzeiro. Bolasie hit the deck clutching his stomach and required medical attention. He managed to finish the first half but did not reappear for the second period.
Hospitalisation and Diagnosis
Club doctors sent him to hospital, where scans revealed the injury to his pancreas. Reports from Brazil suggest he faces several weeks of recovery.
A statement, re-shared on his Instagram story, said: "Just a quick update to everyone who has been seeking news and wishing Bolasie well since yesterday. As everyone knows, yesterday he suffered a very strong impact to his rib area, resulting in his hospitalisation. He is currently stable but will undergo further tests and remains under observation. Thank you all for your messages of support and well wishes. God willing, everything will be alright soon."
Match and Future Fixtures
The first leg ended goalless, with the return fixture scheduled at Cruzeiro's Mineirao on Wednesday. Bolasie will not be available for that match.
Bolasie joined Chapecoense earlier this year, having previously played for Cruzeiro and Criciuma since leaving England in 2024. He is best remembered for his time under Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace, where the manager famously claimed he would only sell the winger for £60 million.
