The 2027 Tour de France will open with a ceremony at Edinburgh Castle on June 30, marking the first time the race has departed from Scotland in its 120-year history. The event will feature the official presentation of riders ahead of the 114th edition of the men's race, with the Grand Depart set for July 2.
Ceremony and Festivities
The ceremony on the castle Esplanade will introduce the world's top elite cyclists and their teams to fans. It will also include a performance by the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, featuring Highland dancers, massed pipes and drums, and new music created specifically for the occasion.
Celebrations will extend beyond the castle walls, offering fans across Edinburgh the chance to see riders en route to the castle and join in the festivities ahead of the Grand Depart.

The race sets off from Edinburgh on July 2, with the peloton travelling along the Royal Mile before heading south through Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, then to Carlisle via Dumfries and Galloway.
